Ruth Carneson is both a writer and an artist. She was born in Cape Town in 1953 and went into exile at the age of fourteen. In 1991 she returned to Cape Town.  She spent time as an Artist in Residence on Robben Island where she continued to live and work for the next ten years.  In 2010 Ruth Carneson’s memoir ‘Spilling Over the Edges’ was short listed for the Penguin Prize for African Writing and was published as Girl on the Edge in 2014. Girl on the Edge was nominated for a SALA  Awards  (South African Literary Awards)  in 2015. Ruth has also contributed short stories and poetry to anthologies of women’s writing.
