Julie Barker
Julie Barker worked in South Africa as a scriptwriter and Head Writer for television. She worked for Isidingo – the Need and became the Head Writer of Scandal! in 2007. After this, she has written scripts for The Wild, High Rollers, Tsha Tsha, and served as Head Writer for Ixoso Connexion and inKaba and published stories for Fundza. In 2013, she wrote A Shining Star published by Cover2Cover. In 2015, she completed an MA in Creative Writing for which she authored a novel called Other People’s Countries. From 2013 to 2016, she worked in the TV Drama department for BBC Scotland as a Story Editor and worked on their flagship television drama series, River City. She produced a short film, The Hide, which won Best Drama at the 2017 Brighton Film Festival. She wrote for a BBC series called Armchair Detectives, which won a BAFTA in 2018. She has had creative memoir pieces published in an Edinburgh online review, The Ogilvie. In 2019, her piece Is There Life Beyond Patriarchy? was shortlisted for the September edition of the John Byrne Award. She is currently working on converting her novel Other People’s Countries into a play.
